File Preparation

GENERAL INFORMATION - When possible include a laser printout, inkjet printout, or a PDF as well as a printout of the color separations. These printouts will allow us to accurately check your files when they are opened on our equipment. If your project is to be folded please provide a folded sample. If your project has bleeds (color extends to the edge of the sheet) the image or color will need to extend 1/8 inch beyond the edge of the page. The printed project will be trimmed to the correct size after printing. Remove all unused items from around your art board, such as photos, text, etc. Leaving these items on the art board may cause unwanted results. After a review of your file, a proof of your file will be provided to you.

CMYK COLORS - Please make sure that your full color documents are created using CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). CMYK is the color model used for commercial printing. These four colors create all the colors you see when looking at any printed piece. RGB (red, green, blue) are the colors used in monitors. This color model works well on your monitor or web media, but can not be printed unless it is changed to CMYK color space. Keep in mind that when RGB colors are converted to CMYK color space the color will shift slightly because RGB has a wider range of colors than CMYK. RGB colors may tend to look brighter on your screen than CMYK printed colors. Do not rely on your monitor for accurate color display.

PANTONE COLORS - Please make sure Pantone colors (also called spot or PMS Colors) have the same name. Pantone 185 CV and Pantone 185 CVU seem to be the same color, but because of the name, the computer will interpret them as two seperate colors and the file will seperate into two different colors.

FONTS - Please include all fonts with your files. This must include the fonts used in your page layout program and all the fonts used in your supporting files. If you are using PostScript fonts please include the printer font as well as the screen fonts. Open Type fonts and True Type fonts have one font that functions as both screen and printer fonts.

SUPPORT FILES (LINKS) - Please include all images with your document. Some programs allow you to embed images into your page layout. DO NOT EMBED YOUR IMAGES. If you embed your images we canot check them for color accuracy, trapping and quality. Check to see that your image resolution is 300ppi (pixels per inch) at the final size in your layout when working with photos or scans. Low resolution images (images with out enough pixels) will look jagged, muddy and will print poorly.
